Have been looking at the romantic iceberg paintings of Caspar David Friedrich and Frederic Church. They are so grand, so informed with ambition and drafting skill. You can see how much planning and preparation went into most of their compositions. Needless to say I have approached the mass and drama of these in a much different, primal and clunky way.

a compelling image, Marc. how I see it changes as I shift my focus. my own contents guide my perception and something there in the image moves me beyond this limitation.

thanks

i visited Saturna this summer and will be making my way to Galiano in September. the plan - walking drawing massage.

Hello Marc,
It was a real pleasure meeting you three a the market yesterday, so thanks for coming by to visit. I have enjoyed spending time at your blogsite. You are a very fine painter, which after our conversation does not surprise me, and I am intrigued by your evocative imagery textures and colour. Love those boats! I enjoy your sense of humour, which is darker and wittier than mine and you have a way with words that I really admire.
Here is a link to Shawn Tan’s work: The book i was speaking to you about is The Arrival, 2006.
